Write it Down
Write down the nagging thoughts that are racing around in your head. If you're anything like me, one thought will lead to another. Write that one down too. This thought, in turn, leads to a third. After the first couple, let the rest go. If one leads to another and another tonight. Chances are, they will do the same thing tomorrow. You've got the first couple safely on paper; now forget them.
I know this is something that is easier said then done. We simply need to train ourselves to be able to trust our written words. The train will come through again tomorrow as it always does. It is highly doubtful that ideas that bothered us so much tonight will simply vanish. Wouldn't that be nice, though?
On the opposite end of the spectrum, if I have some idea at night that I don't want to forget, I repeat it a few times. I'm written a couple of poems in my head while I've been in bed. I was too lazy or too comfortable to get up and do something about it. If I repeat the ideas a couple of times, I am more likely to remember them in the morning. I know this one has worked for me.
If someone would do an experiment on that first one, I'd love to hear the results. I keep advising it but haven't had the cause to actually use it. Let me know.

I wish I could do that V, if I don't get out of bed and write it down, it's lost. I've probably lost more poems that way than I've ever actually written.
I have to believe that the ideas are still there tucked into the subconscious. You may not have written the poem then, but you will. You just need to find the key.
